“I make a platform in a tree to keep away from prowling leopards and snakes on the ground. It does get lonely – I would love to find a Jane to help me pass the time.”
— DeWet Du Toit
It all started with his father’s collection of Tarzan comics and books when he lived in Namibia where he spent as much time as he could outdoors.
In 2007 he began training in the art of being Tarzan. And just like the fictional character he uses vines and tree branches to propel himself through the undergrowth while bellowing Tarzan’s famous jungle cry.
For his training he spends, three or four days a week swinging on vines, swimming across rivers, and running up mountains near his home in George, South Africa.
His training also includes dodging snakes and sleeping in trees.
He says, “People might say I’m crazy, but I know this is what I was born to do.”
When he is not running through the undergrowth DeWet helps his dad Ludolf put up fences on his ranch.
DeWet Du Toit spends four days each week running barefoot and nearly naked through the forest, eating nuts and berries, swinging through trees, and often sleeping overnight in a tree—and he captures it all on tape. Check out his YouTube Channel
